Stitch Up, Patipat Chaiwitesh
We all get stitched up one way or another, tricked, deceived, fooled, our lives are full of illusions. Patipat's transformation of found objects by pinching, weaving, stuffing and sewing betrays an ongoing fascination with the many ways in which our cultures condition everything into some kind of alleged false identity. Informed by a dialectic of opposites, nature and culture, instinct and reason, innocence and corruption, Patipat's beguiling artworks become the evidence in an open-ended investigation, resulting in a show trial to which you are invited to be the judge.
This solo exhibition at YenakArt Villa stitches together Patipat’s previous styles to create something new and innovative. Expect a diversity of artworks including tapestries, sculptures incorporating found objects, installation pieces and living tapestries.
“I believe that people have their own visual memories of the found objects on which my designs are based, creating new perceptions to establish new terms of aesthetics. This collection doesn’t aim at controlling the feelings of the audience but rather it is experimental concerning their aesthetic reactions deriving from the design and their perception and knowledge of
the object that they were familiar with” - Patipat CHAIWITESH
